Viva la Espana

It was over 30 Celcius in Halle, Germany; just before the final game started. Besides that I was surrounded by people who was supporting Holland. One of them was my Dutch friend, which is acceptable. But all the others were Germans, whose asses were kicked by Spain in the semi-final. I guess that is also acceptable somehow.

Before the game I was saying that "either Holland or the reputation of Holland is gonna win tonight". Because Holland has finally and officially given up the "voetbal totaal" with their new trainer, Bert Van Marwijk. On the other hand, although Spain do not play exactly the total footbal, I can still say that, the football they play is a projection of total footbal in 21st century.

Honestly it wasn't a good game as most people expected. Holland's over-aggressive football is the number one suspect on that. But also both two teams, who have never won this trophy before, were quite excited as well. The stress on the players and as well as the supporters increased when both teams failed to score.

In the meantime, when compared to my Dutch friend, I was the one who was more nervous. He is not actually interested in football but I expected from him to be more into the event at least for the final game. However towards the end of the game, he was in the mood, which I hadn't seen in the previous matches of Holland. He was helpful though; He was the most reliable reference about the pronounciation of the names of Dutch players.

In the end, Andres Iniesta's strike brought the cup to Spain. I was happy because the football that Spain played for the couple of years was awarded with the World Cup after the European Championship in 2008.

the spoilsport.
